NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R<1> is H, alkyl, phenylalkyl or alkanoyl, etc.; R<2> is H, hydroxy or acetoxyl; R<3> is alkyl, phenyl, mono- or di- halophenyl, etc.; X is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxyl, nitro, etc.; m and n are 1 or 2) or a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:7-Chloro-1, 3-dihydro-1-(1-phenethyl-4-piperidinyl)-5-phenyl-2H-1, 4-benzodiazepin-2-one. USE:Useful as a psychotropic agent, e.g. antidepressant and anti-anxiety agent. PROCESS:A compound of formula II is reacted with an ammonia reagent, e.g. ammonia or ammonium carbonate, in a solvent, e.g. acetonitrile or methanol, at 15-190 deg.C, preferably 40-90 deg.C to afford the aimed compound of formula I . |
