<p>A polyester containing aluminium atoms and monocarboxylic acid residues comprising constituent residues represented by the following formulas (I), (II), (III) and (IV): …<CHEM>… where R1, in its repeated occurrence in the polyester, represents one or more bivalent groups each derived by removal of both carboxyl groups from terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, orthophthalic acid or a straight-chained C4-10 aliphatic dicarboxylic acid; R2, in its repeated occurrence in the polyester, represents one or more univalent groups derived by removal of the carboxyl group from, a C6-30 aliphatic or alicyclic monocarboxylic acid or C7-20 aromatic monocarboxylic acid; D, in its repeated occurrence in the polyester, represents one or more bivalent groups each derived by removal of both hydroxyl groups from a C2-10 aliphatic diol or a C6-8 alicyclic diol; and each of m, n, p1, p2, p3 and q is 0 or 1, the constituent residues being bonded together in the combinations (I)-(II), (I)-(III), (II)-(III), (II)-(IV), (III)-(III) and (III)-(IV) and via only one oxygen atom in each combination, the molar ratio (I):(II) being substantially 1:1, the molar ratio (I):(III) being in the range 1,000:1 to 100:5 and the molar ratio (III):(IV) being in the range 4:1 to 1:10, the polyester having an intrinsic viscosity of not less than 0.5 dl/g is excellent in adhesibility and can be used inter alia as an adhesive. Using the polyester as an adhesive or a base, laminates and laminated hollow vessels comprising the polyester and an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer can be produced. The laminates and laminated hollow vessels are suited for use inter alia as packaging materials or containers for food and drink.</p> |
