The entrance for rail vehicles is designed to be adjustable to correspond to platform height, so that it can be used at stations with platforms of different heights. To permit entry from a high platform, the movable step, which is composed of two parts which are articulatedly connected to one another, forms part of the completely level floor which extends right up to the side of the vehicle. To permit entry from a ground-level platform, a drive is used to fold the movable step downwards, to form, together with a fixed lower step, a three-part entrance. The design of the entrance according to the invention is intended to ensure that the individual components, which have hitherto been physically separated, are now brought together to form a coherent whole in the entrance section, in order to permit rapid assembly. The assembly is also to be designed in such a way that, in the region of the entrance section, it transmits the compressive and tensile forces which are imparted to the underframe. This is achieved in that the fixed step is mounted on a rigid frame, the rear cross member of which supports upwardly pointing beams for the rotatable mounting of the movable step, the connection of the frame to the vehicle being such that the beams are suspended in the floor of the vehicle and the lateral cross members are releasably fastened to the vehicle.
