Sewing machine for the simultaneous sewing of workpieces with lock and over-edge stitches, with a baseplate; with a body fastened to the baseplate and having a head; with an arm shaft mounted rotatably in the body; and with a first needle mounted vertically movably in the head and driven by the arm shaft; there being a second needle movably mounted on the head, for movements synchronous with the first needle, along a path oblique in relation to the latter; a lower shaft mounted in the baseplate and rotatable about its own axis in dependence on the rotation of the arm shaft; a drive shaft mounted in the baseplate and extending essentially parallel to the lower shaft, the lower shaft and the drive shaft being connected to one another for common rotation; a gripper arranged on the lower shaft and cooperating with the first needle in order to form lock stitches; and an upper stirrup and a lower stirrup which are mounted in the baseplate and which are movable to and fro by means of the drive shaft for cooperation with the second needle in order to form over-edge stitches. <IMAGE>
