The present invention relates to a device for objectively determining sperm quality by measuring the concentration, motility and vitality, i.e. the three main parameters for estimating the potential fertility of an ejaculate. The device comprises a rectangular, optically transparent, rigid surface having three channels (a, b, c) which are each designed so as to have an accurately dimensioned depth of 10 to 40 micrometres and a width of about one millimetre; this surface is covered by a second rectangular, optically transparent flat surface (d, e, f). The device can be successfully employed for determining the motility of human or animal sperm; the results are much more accurate and reliable than those achievable with the known cells. <IMAGE>
