A device for temperature-dependent limiting of an electric motor for vacuum cleaners or other process machines which are always operated at full power. A PTC thermistor is arranged in a heat-transmitting relationship, preferably in the fan airflow of the electric motor, is part of the drive circuit for an AC switch (triac) which controls the motor power emitted, and is connected in parallel with a glow lamp which is illuminated whenever the drive circuit influences the triac (as a result of the operation of the PTC thermistor) such that the motor power is switched to a lower value in order to prevent overheating.
