The invention relates to a hydraulic system for a motor vehicle, having a pressure reservoir which is supplied with hydraulic pressure medium by means of a feed pump and from which at least one hydraulic consumer, in particular a hydraulic brake system, can be fed, having a non-return valve, which is arranged between the feed pump and the pressure reservoir and shuts off a pressure medium stream in the direction of the feed pump, and having a control valve (pressure-relief valve), which acts between feed pump and non-return valve and regulates the system pressure (reservoir pressure). The non-return valve takes the form a pilot-controlled non-return valve which, irrespective of the level of the reservoir pressure, opens when the feed flow of the feed pump commences and closes again when the feed flow ceases. <IMAGE>
