In the case of a spacer of this type, the ends of the spacer being able to bear under stress against the arches by means of hinge-like connecting elements releasably acting on the arches, and inter-engageable spline serrations being provided on the connecting elements and on the spacer in the region of the hinges and being able to brace one with the other by means of screws without twisting, the object is to simplify the entire spacer. To achieve this object, there is provided on each of the mutually facing end parts of the spacer (1, 2) and of the connecting elements (4) articulated on the latter a rail (8) directed in the same direction as the longitudinal extent of the latter. The rails (8) have close to their free end parts in each case a bore (9) directed at right angles to the longitudinal extent of the rail. Furthermore, the rails (8) of the spacer (1, 2) and respectively of a connecting element (4) are arranged overlapping each other in such a way that their bores (9) are coaxially opposite each other; moreover tensioning screws pass through the rail bores (9), and provided on the mutually facing rail sides there are the spline serrations (12), which are arranged concentrically with respect to the rail bores (9). <IMAGE>
