In the production of a composite material having a Ti core for spectacle frames, heat treatment is carried out at a selected temperature on an untreated composite material which is composed of the Ti core and a metallic sheath, in order to bring about a partial diffusion in solid solution from the metal or the metals forming the sheath, for example Ni, Au or their alloys, into the structure of the Ti core so that the composite material has a core zone comprising a Ti-base alloy and a surface zone composed of the metal or the metals forming the sheath. In this process, the spring properties and the mechanical strength are appreciably improved, with the result that the final product is particularly suitable for soldering and cladding.
