This invention relates to a gear shifting mechanism, Fig. 1 and 2, in a housing 21, which mechanism is actuated between lever driving wheel 7 and the hub driving wheel 6 by gear selection cogs 8, 9 and 10 which can be chosen in dependence on the desired speed. Such gear selection cogs 8, 9 and 10 offer the possibility of also permitting, besides a circling driving movement, an intermittent movement as drive 12, such as is required in the case of a pedal lever drive 25 with a short driving travel 12. According to the lever drive which is already known and has up and down or to and fro movements which take place on both sides of the hub 5 with a small intermittent drive, a derailleur gear or hub gear cannot be used or is usable only with an elaborate technical procedure since the circling driving movement was eliminated and the drive takes place on both sides of the hub 22, i.e. left and right. According to the invention, an easy and simple gear shifting mechanism 21 has been developed which is fixed to the frame struts etc., 23 and 24, by means of a screw 19. An elongate hole 18 which has its radius towards the screw 19 makes it possible to tension the chain 11 from the hub pinion 5 to the hub driving pinion 6. The actual shifting procedures are actuated on the spindles 2, 3 and 4 and the speed of the driving wheel 6 is determined in each case according to the size of the gear selection cogs 8, 9 and 10.
