The invention provides an absorption method for separating gases or liquids from gas or liquid mixtures using as the absorbant a macroporous polymer produced from a cross-linked aromatic homo or copolymer whose polarity optionally may have been varied by means of an electrophilic aromatic substitution, addition, eliminating, and/or reducing reactions. The polymer is in particulate form with a surface area greater than 50 m<2>/g. Macroporous polymers are produced by copolymerizing a 60/40 divinyl benzene/ethyl benzene mixture, followed by sulphonation, acylation, alkylation, nitration (optionally followed by reduction), bromination, nitration/bromination (optionally followed by Br replacement with CN), or by introduction of aminoacid residues. |
