MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To improve considerably the dispersibility of magnetic powder by using magnetic powder having a low axial ratio and sufficiently large coercive force Hc so as to improve the suitability to high-density recording. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic powder having 1.3-4.5 axial ratio Ra and a compound represented by formula I or II are incorporated into the magnetic layer of a magnetic recording medium. In the formula, X<1> is 1-30C satd. or unsatd. aliphatic hydrocarbon, 3-30C optionally substituted aryl or a heterocyclic ring; R<1> is H, 1-5C alkyl or 6-15C optionally substituted aryl; each of A and A' is H, an alkali metallic atom or an alkaline earth metallic atom; Z is X<1>; Q is N or C; R<2> is 1-5C straight chain or branched alkyl; n is an integer of 0-4; and X<11> is 1-20C acyl or X<1>. The preferred magnetic powder is iron-base magnetic powder having large Hc and high sigmas and giving high output.
