Continuous welding of two polyethylene films using thermal radiation. According to the invention, a double-layer web 11 of the material to be welded is formed and driven continuously in progressive movement, especially by means of wheels 15, 16, an electrical resistance wire 12 moreover being arranged in the immediate vicinity of the double-layer web, but not contacting it, the orientation of the wire being that of the progressive movement of the web.
