PURPOSE:To obtain a solid-state image pickup having a sufficient blue sensitivity by forming a layer on which a channel region is formed inserted partially to a layer formed with a gate region. CONSTITUTION:A channel region 12 made of n<-> layer is formed on an n<+> layer substrate 10 and a control gate region 14 of p<+> layer is provided on the upper face. A cell corresponding to one picture element is formed by the control gate region 14 and the source region 16 formed around the region 14. The control gate region 14 is formed deeper in an n<-> layer 12 so that a sufficient diffusion potential difference for leading the excited carrier by the incident light to the gate and storing it is formed, and a part of the n<-> layer 12 penetrated with the gate region 14 has a function generating sufficiently electron and positive hole pairs to the incident light of a short wavelength region as well as a long wavelength region.
