PURPOSE:To obtain a mass spectrometer to assure always high resolution and sensitivity by varying the strength of the quadruple polar lenses according to the predetermined function in response to the magnetic field strength when the field strength of the analysing magnetic field has become more than the predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:The quadruple polar lens 7 is at the first stage of the electric field 2, i.e. between the ion source 1 and the slit 5, and is used for direction convergent action. Also, the quadruple polar lens 8 is located between the electric field 2 and the analysing magnetic field 3 and is used for energy convergent action. The output of the magnetic field detector 10 is conducted to the comparator 12 through the amplifier 11. The standard voltage is supplied to the comparator 12 from the standard voltage source 13, and when the output of the Hall element has become more than the standard signal, the detecting signal is sent to the compensation function generators 14a and 14b. The function generators 14a and 14b are so estabilished as to generate individual functions separately and the compensation of the convergent condition by lenses 7 and 8 are to be made properly. |
