摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst effective in reacting toluene with methanol to manufacture p-xylene by immersing crystalline borosilicic acid in a soln. of an organosilicon compound in an inert org. solvent and by calcining the borosilicic acid impregnated with the soln. CONSTITUTION:An organosilicon compound such as organosilane, alkyl silicate or silicone is dissolved in an inert org. solvent such an n-hexane, and crystalline borosilicic acid is immersed in the soln. The borosilicic acid impregnated with the soln. is dried at 120 deg.C for 10hr and calcined at 600 deg.C for 5hr to deposit silicon oxide on the surface by 0.05-50wt% of the amount of the crystalline borosilicic acid. When the resulting crystalline borosilicic acid having deposited silicon oxide is used as a catalyst for reacting toluene with methanol, p-xylene can be manufatured in a high yield. The borosilicic acid may be molded with alumina sol as a binder before use as the catalyst.
