The invention relates to the capture of animals by means of a system operating in the manner of a ratchet mechanism. Held in a horizontal plane by a counterweight, a rigid platform (blade) 1, centred on the top part of a frame 2, gives way under the animal's foot and renders backward movement impossible. This system eliminates the risk of accidents and enables captured animals to be released unharmed. The subject of the invention may be used for various purposes and everywhere the implementation of traditional methods is hazardous for people and for protected animal species. <IMAGE>
