An automatic ironing apparatus for ironing garments and other textile articles. The textile articles (19) are conveyed in turn by transfer means (25) from a first storage station (11) to a pressing station (13) at which a pressing operation is performed on the textile article and thereafter to a second storage station (15). The apparatus includes a pair of pressing rollers (27) adapted to be disposed one on each side of the textile article (19) at the pressing station (13). The rollers (27) are movable between a spaced position in which they are clear of the textile article at the pressing station and a pressing position in which they are in pressing contact with the textile article. The rollers (27) are further movable in unison over the textile article while in the pressing position. Means (87) are provided for spraying steam onto the textile article as the rollers (27) press it. |
