The castor has a connection plate and a bearing plate fixedly connected thereto, as well as a rotary plate mounted between connection plate and bearing plate. This rotary plate is a constituent of the wheel fork and is supported via ball rings on the bearing plate or the connection plate. Connection plate, bearing plate and rotary plate have an axially movable adjusting pin passed through their centre, the adjusting pin acting upon a brake lever which is arranged in the wheel fork hollow and can be transferred into a locking or releasing position. For the purpose of reliably locking the castor against swivelling, on the one hand, and for the economic manufacturing due to minimising the components, on the other hand, a leaf spring used as the brake lever is supported at one end on the rotary plate of the wheel fork and at the other end is coupled to a locking lever which is mounted in the wheel fork and in the locking position of the leaf spring engages in the tooth spaces in the toothed bearing plate.
