The apparatus 1 represented in Fig. 1 for setting up blanks to be used for producing folding boxes has in addition to a preparing plate 2 and an associated punch 6 also two sonotrodes 8 and 9, which can be displaced in the direction of the arrows 10. These sonotrodes 8 and 9 generate ultrasonics, by means of which the edges 17 of the blank 16, which consists completely of plastic or is coated with plastic or an emulsion paint, are heated and subsequently welded or adhesively bonded to one another.
