By means of the invention the engines of the prior application are improved. In particular the engine with external combustion chamber and water or steam re-injection or introduction into the external combustion chamber on completion of the combustion process of the fuel in the hot compressed air is analysed. A method of calculation is developed and proposed for the entire engine. From this it emerges that the engine with external combustion chamber could not hitherto be realised because the high combustion chamber temperatures would melt away the housing of the combustion chamber. Accordingly the invention concentrates the combustion on a thin, broad gap, which can be easily cooled. Immediately following combustion, which is enforced at each point of the gap in a precise fuel-air ratio, the combustion gases are mixed with water, which immediately vaporises in the gases or with already preheated steam. Thus a quite considerable temperature reduction is achieved, whilst the evaporation and expansion of water or steam performs work. In one embodiment the engine can then function entirely without external cooling. The introduction of a work efficiency factor shows that engines according to the invention without any external cooling can approximate to those of diesel engines and moreover in addition to operation with liquid and gaseous fuels ...
