In a safety valve, especially for gas-carrying lines, there is provided, in order to achieve a compact design and to avoid the risk of explosion caused by escaping gas in the event of a leak in the highly stressed gaskets of the valve, a valve-closing piece having a cylindrical sealed-off guide which is guided in a control chamber formed inside the valve housing, is provided with a feed line for the pressure medium and is connected by means of a control line to the flow-off side of the valve which can be shut off and opened by means of a control valve. As a result, the actuating medium can pass only into the gas system, but not into the open. By means of a throttle bore between the control chamber and delivery side of the valve, the latter can be controlled by means of its own medium.
