A rescue system for a sea station, e.g. an offshore drilling rig (4) or a production platform, consists of an enclosed lifeboat (1) which can be detachably suspended on a single suspension or holding point (P) at the sea station above the free water surface. The suspension point (P) is arranged with regard to the centre of gravity (G) of the lifeboat (1) in such a way that the lifeboat (1), in the hanging position, is given a predetermined sloping orientation which it retains essentially constantly during its free fall after release from the suspension (2). <IMAGE>
