A clamping device for clamping workpieces (11) to be worked on contains a mounting (12), to which a rubber sleeve (22) is fastened. Compressed air or hydraulic fluid can be introduced in the interspace (23) between sleeve (22) and mounting (12), a valve (38) actuable from outside being provided. The valve (38) is preferably a non-return valve. In a particular position of a supporting table on which the mounting (12) is arranged, an outer end (44) of a pressure line (45) is fitted onto the valve (38), the valve opens and the pressure passes into the interspace, causing the sleeve (22) to bear in surface contact against the workpiece (11). When the pressure is sufficient, the pressure line (45) is withdrawn, the valve (38) closes and the workpiece (11) is securely held. <IMAGE>
