The field of application relates to workpieces which have to be frequently clamped or reclamped on account of short machining time or different dimensions. The object of the invention is to increase the load-carrying capacity of the thread flanks and to reduce the friction at a low cost of manufacture and with simple handling. The object is achieved according to the invention in that, in an elongated hole arranged horizontally in the basic body, the top part constitutes a threaded half shell and the bottom part constitutes a through-bore, in which arrangement a lever provided with a guide curve is pivotably mounted in the basic body, and the acme-threaded spindle, in an end position of the lever, is connected to its guide curve and the threaded half shell. After the workpiece is inserted and the movable clamping jaw is pushed up, the lever is pressed down, the acme-threaded spindle being lifted and inserted into the threaded half shell. The workpiece is clamped by turning the acme-threaded spindle.
