The chimney covering for older chimneys which have started to leak and/or crumble possesses a sleeve-like covering shell (11) made of metal, asbestos cement, slate or the like, which occupies the entire chimney height and surrounds the chimney (10) externally with a peripheral spacing, and which possesses internal clamping devices (12) with which the covering shell (11) can be fixed to the chimney (10) by means of clamping. The clamping devices (12) are each composed of bearing angles (14) capable of being fixed in the corner regions of the covering shell (11) and of clamping pieces (15) pivotably held in said bearing angles and capable of being pressed against the chimney corners by means of clamping screws (23). The free space (26) between chimney (10) and covering shell (11) is filled with a curable sealing compound (27), forming an additional connection between chimney (10) and covering shell (11). <IMAGE>
