In order to convey workpieces 5 between machining units 2, 3, the invention provides a thin conveying belt 4 which is removed from a discharge store 7 at one machine unit 2 and is fed to a receiving store 8 at the inlet of the other machining unit 3. The workpieces 5 are set down in each case at an unused point of the conveying belt 4, are fastened thereon and released before removal.
