The invention relates to a safety mechanism for closing a quick-acting overflow device which is used in accident protection systems of steam generators in nuclear power stations with sodium cooling. The safety mechanism contains a support plate (1), a diaphragm (3) and a disconnecting blade (2). The support plate (1) has a radial cutout (13), in which safety members (7) are mounted displaceably. An end face (72) is bevelled, and bears against an inclined surface (52) formed on the inner wall of the lower part (5). The upper edge (91) of a lock (9) mounted on the draw rod (10) engages in an annular groove (74) in the lower surface of the safety members (7) with a bevelled inner wall (76). The invention can be used in all devices which contain safety diaphragms which can be mechanically severed, specifically in nuclear power stations and in the chemical industry. <IMAGE>
