In known microwave ovens, there is provided, in the cooking space which can be closed by a door, a light which, after removal of a cover, is accessible from the front side for exchanging the lamp. This requires constructionally expensive measures, in order to prevent with certainty escape of the microwaves from the cooking space. According to the invention, there is arranged in the front-side oven flange, on which the door strikes and on which means for microwave sealing must be provided, a closable light opening, behind which a light shaft is situated easily accessibly. Additional sealing means are not necessary in this case. <IMAGE>
