The hydraulic actuating unit comprises a cylinder bore (5) which is formed in a cylinder housing (2) and in which an axially displaceable piston (4) is guided. The cylinder bore (5) has an annular groove (6), in which a seal (7) sealing off the cylinder housing (2) from the piston (4) is formed. The groove base (10) of the annular groove (6) comprises two intersecting surface sections (11, 12), which face the lateral surface (9) of the piston (4) and form an angle of less than 180 DEG . This groove base (10) achieves the effect that predetermined releasing play of a brake remains constant irrespective of the pressure and piston displacement. <IMAGE>
