The invention relates to a control element arrangement with axially displaceable bearing of the control element in a mount and at least one contact pressure chamber behind one part of the control element for pressing the control surface onto the sealing surface of a machine with fluid flowing through it. Such arrangements have proven successful for certain pressures and rotational speeds but is it now recognised that at high pressures and speeds known control elements have a tendency to twist in the direction of rotation and then jam as under a wedge action. This disadvantage, first recognised by the invention, is overcome by the invention in that the twisting and jamming of the control element is prevented by more precise calculation and design or by arresting to prevent twisting. The patent application shows examples of the new control element arrangement and precise methods for its calculation. <IMAGE>
