Rotary piston compressor comprising two pistons 2, 4 mounted on parallel shafts and forced to turn at equal speeds in opposite directions, applied against one another and against a housing to form a tight seal. A fixed hollow shaft extends axially inside the first piston 2 and has an axial slot 13 which passes through its side wall. The pistons 2, 4, the second aperture 24 and the slot 13 are arranged in such a way that the radially inner edge of the front face 17 of the first piston 2 and the radially outer edge of the rear face of the other piston 4 meet just at the moment when the axial slot 13 and the second aperture 24 begin to coincide. This compressor virtually eliminates all the dead spaces by reason of its geometry and it has an improved efficiency. <IMAGE>
