Device for protecting a metal tube subjected to severe thermal conditions, for example a tube forming a submerged nozzle for blowing fluid into liquid steel. A device according to the invention comprises a refractory end-part 3 fixed preferably by screwing to the end of the metal tube 1, at least one refractory lining 5 passed around the tube 1 and bearing on a support means such as a washer 13 rigidly fixed to the tube, elastic compression means 10 for exerting a force on this lining tending to press it onto the said support means 13, and, between the lining 5 and the metal tube, one or more thermally insulating layers 7, constituted advantageously by a tube made from material based on refractory fibres. Thus, when there is a stop in the blowing, reheating of the metal tube and the effect of the residual heat in the refractory lining is avoided. <IMAGE>
