The working cylinder has a sealing cover (2), the outside diameter of which is equal to or greater than the outside diameter of a cylindrical tube (1) and is mounted detachably on the free ends of the cylindrical tube by means of fastening screws (10) extending parallel to the axis of the said tube. To clamp the sealing cover (2) fast on the cylindrical tube (1), there is an annular groove with an inserted snap ring (12) in the inner surface of the cylindrical tube, at both ends of the latter. The snap ring (12) is arranged between a radial face (11), facing outwards from the cylinder head, of a flange (5) at that end of the sealing cover (2) which is towards the inside of the cylinder head and an opposing oblique surface (8) of a clamping device situated in an outer annular recess (6) in the cover (2) bounded by the inner cover flange (5) and an outer cover part (3). The oblique surface (8) can be pressed against the snap ring (12) by means of the fastening screws (10). The working cylinder is simple to manufacture and presents no difficulties either during its assembly or its installation. <IMAGE>
