In this device, a drive wheel 3 placed at the rear of the vehicle picks up the speed of progress of the latter, drives the dosing device and possibly also a spreading disc 2. This wheel can be pressed against the ground or raised. The power transmission device is constituted by a hydraulic pump which is coupled to the wheel 3 and sends pressurised liquid through a pipe to one or more hydraulic motors which drive agitating and dispensing rollers. According to the invention, the pressurised hydraulic fluid is also sent to an actuating cylinder 12 which raises the wheel 3 when the pressure in the hydraulic circuit controlling the hydraulic motors has dropped below a given value, for example as a result of the exhausting of material contained in the reservoir and the consequent elimination of the load on the motors. <IMAGE>
