The appliance contains a measuring instrument to which the flue gas is delivered which is analysed by the measuring instrument. Said delivery is effected via lines which contain devices for processing the gas. In addition, the measuring instrument can be connected to a power supply via leads. The measuring instrument and its accessories are accommodated in a common housing (4, 5) which is fashioned as a portable case and consists of two parts which are held together by closures (6). One part (4) contains the measuring instrument and the other part (5) contains the accessories. <IMAGE>
