PURPOSE:To facilitate even layout in the longitudinal direction of a printing paper, by a method wherein a means for measuring the length from the leading end of a printing paper to the head line of printing is provided, and printing is so conducted that a space having a length equal to the measured value is formed at a lower part of the paper. CONSTITUTION:The printer 4 is of the type in which printing is conducted on a printing paper 42 wound around a platen 41 by reciprocating a printing head 43, and the platen 41 is rotated by a predetermined angle for each line to form printing lines. Further, a sensor 44A is provided in proximity to the head 43, and a sensor 44B is provided at a position spaced from the position of the sensor 44A by a predetermined angle span. Prior to printing operation, characters to be printed and the number of printing lines in one page are inputted. When a printing starting key is depressed, the platen 41 is reversely rotated, and the leading end of the paper 42 is detected by the sensor 44A. Then, the plate 41 is forwardly rotated, the trailing end of the paper 42 is detected by the sensor 44B, and the number of lines for the space is calculated on the basis of the detected values and the number of printing lines. |
