In order to retain the typical textile properties in the hydrophobicisation of textile materials with the aid of a thermoplastic polymer, the method is characterised in that the textile material is first impregnated with a solution or emulsion of an organosilicon compound, dried and then bonded with a film of the thermoplastic polymer using heat and pressure exclusively on the raised sites of the textile material surface.
