A magnetic recording disc cartridge has a magnetic recording disc (3) and a housing (4), in which the recording disc (3) is accommodated. A rotatable actuating member (7) with an opening (14) is rotatably mounted in the housing (4), part of the actuating member (7) being exposed by a clearance (4b) in the housing (4), so that the rotatable actuating member (7) can be turned manually from outside the housing. The housing (4) is provided with a pair of indicating holes (24) which are respectively formed in the front wall and in the rear wall of the housing (4), the indicating holes (24) being in line with each other. The rotatable actuating member (7) can be held releasably in the first position and in the second position. If the rotatable actuating member (7) is held in the first position, the indicating holes (24) are in line with the opening (14) of the rotatable actuating member (7), whereas the opening (14) of the actuating member (7) is not in line with the indicating holes (24) if the actuating member (7) is in the second position. The position of the actuating member (7) is sensed by a recording-reproducing system, and the recording-reproducing system is inhibited for recording if the actuating member (7) is in the one position, whereas it is enabled for recording if the actuating member (7) is in the other position. <IMAGE>
