In order to operate a non rail-borne electric vehicle for mining operations, current rails are laid along the cover of the mine. The current collectors are borne by a frame arranged on the vehicle. Said frame has a guide roller with a vertically extending axis of rotation. In order to bring the current collectors into engagement with the current rails, the frame is moved laterally in the direction of the current rails until the guide roller comes to rest against a rail. Afterwards, the frame carries out a vertical lifting movement until the current collectors engage in the current rails.
