The apparatus for testing cigarettes (3) or similar rod-shaped articles in the tobacco processing industry has a rotating test conveyor (1) with n recesses (2), parallel to its axis, on its periphery. Sealing means (13) and testing pressure supply lines (19, 34) for supplying a testing pressure are assigned to each recess, are supported by a control ring (11) which rotates with the test conveyor (1) and, during the rotation of the test conveyor, are successively subjected to testing pressure via a stationary control means (21) and connected to a measuring means. A comparison pressure supply line (33) is assigned to all testing pressure supply lines or groups of a plurality of consecutive testing pressure supply lines. The dividing space between the testing pressure supply lines (19, 34) is 1/n for n recesses at their end facing the recesses (2) and 1/(n + p) at their end facing the stationary control means (21), where p is the number of comparison pressure supply lines (33). The comparison pressure supply lines (33) rest on the test rings (11), irrespective of the space dividing the recesses, at their end facing the recesses (2), and in the dividing space 1/(n + p) between adjacent testing pressure supply lines (34) at their end facing the control means (21). <IMAGE>
