Ring piston machine (K) rotating at an intermittent speed, comprising a stator (S) and a rotor (R). The stator has stator thrust grooves (SW) and the rotor has rotor drive grooves (RM). Transversally to its displacement direction, each piston comprises a pusher rod (T) effecting a reciprocating motion. A piston (or a set of pistons) rotates, owing to the engagement of its pusher rod (T) in the rotor drive groove (RM), with the rotor (R), while the other piston (or set of pistons) remains stationary due to the engagement of its pusher rod in the stator thrust groove (SW). In the course of the following phase, owing to the change of the pusher rod coupling, the first piston will rotate with the rotor and the other piston will remain motionless.
