The invention relates to pneumatic seals which can be used for obliquely arranged shafts which run in a container filled with liquid or a liquid-solid mixture, for example in sand dewatering worms. The object of the invention is to achieve a contactless seal without applying compressed air for the lower shaft bearing and/or the passage of the shaft through the wall of the container or trough. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the wormshafts of sand dewatering worms, for example, are constructed in their lower part in such a way that an air cushion is formed with an increasing water level, such that penetration of the liquid into the region of the bearing is prevented.
