PURPOSE:To minimize the variance in sensitivity owing to a temp. difference in the stage of exposing by providing a silver halide emulsion layer contg. silver halide particles sensitized in color by a specific pentamething dye on a base thereby increasing sensitivity and improving a photographic characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A silver halide photosensitive material having a silver halide emulsion layer on a base is formed by sensitizing in color the silver halide particles incorporated in said silver halide emulsion layer by the compd. expressed by the formula I (R is lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, lower alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, lower alkoxy, aryl, thienyl; X<-> is anion; Y1, Y2 are the nonmetallic atom group necessary for forming a nitrogenous heterocyclic ring contg.
