PURPOSE:To automatically inspect the printed part of a tablet with high accuracy by an apparatus wherein a pattern feature signal is generated based on an image signal through a TV camera, and the printed area is calculated to be compared with the reference value. CONSTITUTION:A printed tablet 1 being transferred is imaged by a TV camera 2. A level comparator 6 having a given threshold discriminates the surface of the tablet 1 from the background through an image signal processing circuit 4, while a level comparator 7 outputs a binary signal to discriminate the printed part of the tablet 1 from the background. A printed area counting circuit 17 is controlled by the binary output thus produced to count horizontal and vertical area width signals through an inspection area signal generating circuit 10, so that the circuit 17 counts the printed area of the tablet 1 to generate printed area inspection information based on comparison with the reference area. On the other hand, an image signal is compared with various thresholds in a feature sampling circuit 5 to generate a feature signal in accordance with the printed or non- printed surface, which signal is compared with the reference value in a defect deciding circuit 25 to make decision. This permits the printed part of the tablet to be automatically inspected with high accuracy. |
