A resilient coupling between a Hooke's type universal joint and a vehicle steering, or transmission, shaft comprises a rubber sleeve 21 bonded or compressed between a tubular extension 19, integral with or welded at 20 to the steering shaft 10, and an enclosing tube 22 integral with or welded at 23 to one yoke 12 of the Hooke's joint, the yoke 12 and shaft 10 having an interengaging loosely fitted square bore 16 and shaft extension 17 respectively (Fig. 3, not shown) which on overload or rupture of the rubber sleeve, convey the torque. The rubber sleeve 21 and tubular members 19, 22 may be formed as a unit prior to joint assembly. |
