PURPOSE:To shorten the time required to kill molten iron and to improve the productivity by adding an additive to the molten iron to remove harmful elements, and blowing an inert gas at once. CONSTITUTION:By blowing a gas such as Cl2 into molten iron or adding an additive such as NH4Cl, harmful elements such as Mn in the molten iron are converted into low b.p. compounds such as MnCl2 and evaporated. Immediately after the evaporation an inert gas such as N2 or Ar is blown into the molten iron to remove the unreacted gas such as Cl2 or a produced compound such as chloride in a short time. The time required to kill the molten iron is shortened, and the productivity is improved. |
