The forward/reverse and ranging valves (24), (26), Fig. 2 (not shown), of an hydraulically operated motor vehicle transmission are manually positioned by a single steering column mounted shift lever 11, rotation of the lever about its longitudinal axis sliding a rod 43 and a rod 46, screw-threaded thereto to allow relative rotation therebetween, by means of rack and pinion 42, 41, the rod 46 having a pivotal connection 47 with one arm of a crank lever (51), the other arm being connected by a rod (23) to the ranging valve 26, and pivoting of the lever 11 about the longitudinal axis of rod 43 rotating a tubular support 28, rotatably supported in a bracket 12 on the steering column 13, and a hollow shaft 16 connected thereto and surrounding the rod 46, the shaft 16 carrying at its lower end a lever 66 pivotally connected by a rod (22) to the forward/reverse valve (24). A reference marker 37 is secured on an arm 32 of the support 28, and a series of range indicia markers 38 formed on a collar 39 on the shift lever shaft 33, the marks 38 being 72 degrees apart. |
