The object of the invention is to make available a storage system which enables slide-and-pull shelf systems and storage systems for long and heavy goods to be moved and guided without rail systems. This is achieved according to the invention when the individual units of the storage system are constructed on a load-carrying substructure. It is possible below the latter for an air cushion to build up, which raises the units for the purpose of sliding and thus also renders heavy units very easy to slide. At rest, the units are positioned with the full area of their substructure against the ground. Fig. 1 represents such a unit, comprising substructures 2, 3, friction walls 4 and shaft 5 with guides 8 for parallel guidance, strips for rapid stopping 9 and vent valve 11. <IMAGE>
