The invention relates to a running gear for a model railway power unit, in which an electric motor drives the driving axles with the driving wheels via a toothed gearing. The invention is based on the object of providing a running gear which can be produced in compact construction as a gear motor and can be adapted with the least effort to the different requirements in terms of wheel set spacing and travelling speed. According to the invention, the object is achieved in that a running gear comprising a drive motor, a reducing gear and driven sets of driving wheels is constructed in such a way that the reducing gear consists of a main gear and an additional gear, that the main gear with the drive motor is constructed as a gear motor, that the main gear and the additional gear are releasably connected to one another, and that at least two sets of driving wheels, driven by the additional gear, are mounted in the housing of the additional gear.
